Promosso dal Wap forum, il
Wap (che sta per Wireless Application Protocol) è una tecnologia che
permette di portare la flessibilità, la facilità d'uso e la ricchezza di
informazione tipiche del Web, anche sui dispositivi "wireless",
ovvero senza fili, in particolare sugli ormai diffusissimi cellulari.
I cellulari Wap, è meglio chiarire subito, non permetteno di navigare
sulle normali pagine web, ma solo sui siti appositamente predisposti.
Scritti con il linguaggio Wml (simile all'Html usato per il Web), i siti
wap forniscono una serie di utili servizi, con pagine semplici,
ottimizzate per l'utilizzo sugli schermi ridotti, tipici dei cellulari (o
dei palmari). Non si tratta di replicare ciò che già esiste per il
normale Web, ma della possibilità di creare tutta una serie di servizi,
che guadagnano moltissimo grazie alla ubiquità ed all'imediatezza di un
celullare. Ad esempio se ho inviato un pacco tramite Dhl, già oggi è
possibile, anche se sono lontano dall'ufficio, magari in treno, ma con il
mio fido cellulare Wap, dicevo già oggi è possibile verificare se
è stato consegnato accedendo al sito Wap della Dhl (wap.dhl.com). Allo
stesso modo posso leggere le ultime quotazioni in borsa, le notizie del
giorno, il saldo del mio conto bancario, ecc., sempre e dovunque, senza
essere costretto ad accedere ad un PC.
